METAL SAMPLES

Metal Samples specializes in manufacturing products for corrosion monitoring and materials evaluation. Since 1980, Metal Samples has supplied products and services to members of nuclear, medical, aerospace, chemical processing, oil & gas, water treating, and petroleum industries around the world.

Metal Samples offers a full range of corrosion monitoring systems, including access fittings for high-pressure/temperature systems to insert and retrieve probes, chemical injection systems, quills, and nozzles. Corrosion instruments include portable meters, transmitters, and data loggers. Other products include corrosion test coupons, holders, insertion systems, and test racks.

Metal Samples offers a complete line of corrosion monitoring instruments / meters for both electrical resistance (ER) and linear polarization resistance (LPR) probes, and for specialized monitoring.

WHY USE METAL SAMPLES?

The electrochemical technique, commonly referred to as Linear Polarization Resistance, is the only corrosion monitoring method that allows corrosion rates to be measured directly, in real time. Although limited to electrolytically conducting liquids, the response time and data quality of this technique make it clearly superior, where applicable, to all other forms of corrosion monitoring.

    Injection and Sampling Systems

Injection systems may be as simple as using an open-ended tube that allows for even distribution of the injected chemical or as complex as using a head with a cap and core to obtain precise atomization of the chemical.

    • Injection systems are used to inject a wide range of chemicals into processes. Such chemicals include:
      • biocides and demulsifiers
      • corrosion inhibitors, and oxygen scavengers,
      • glycol and monoethylene glycol,
      • dewaxers and methanol.

Sampling systems are used to take samples of the process fluid or medium. Such samples are then analysed in the laboratory for inhibitor concentration levels, the presence of metal ions, oxygen levels, scale forming compounds, and a wide range of process parameters.

    Polarization Resistance

Polarization resistance is particularly useful as a method to rapidly identify corrosion upsets and initiate remedial action, thereby prolonging plant life and minimizing unscheduled downtime. The technique is utilized to maximum effect, when installed as a continuous monitoring system.

This technique has been used successfully for over thirty years, in almost all types of water-based, corrosive environments. Some of the more common applications are:

    • Cooling water systems
    • Secondary recovery system
    • Potable water treatment and distribution systems
    • Waste water treatment systems
    • Pickling and mineral extraction processes

    Access Systems

High Pressure Access Systems are specialized piping arrangements which permit internal access to production plant vessels and pipework operating under full process conditions. The corrosion monitoring industry standard for such access systems is based on a 2-inch nominal bore design.

When operated with a Retrieval Tool and Service Valve, high pressure access systems allow the installation and retrieval of:

    • coupon holders
    • probes
    • chemical injection and sampling probes, quills, and nozzles

    Test Coupons

Test coupons provide an inexpensive means of on-line monitoring that will allow you to effectively measure the corrosivity within your system. By observing the mils-per-year corrosion rate of an exposed coupon, valuable information can be provided regarding the material’s life expectancy. Accurate monitoring of corrosion rates in any environment is critical when viewed in terms of the maintenance and repair costs associated with corrosion and material failure.

Metal Samples can make coupons in any size, shape, or material you need. Coupons can be stencilled with alloy and sequence numbers for proper identification.
