Description
Overview:
The Cathometer is designed to be a rugged, portable meter used for taking corrosion measurements on boats and other marine structures in a saltwater environment. It includes the silver / silver chloride reference electrode on a 25 metre cable which is lowered into the ocean surrounding the vessel or structure, it has a stainless steel probe with a pointed end used to measure various items for their potential readings.
Standard Features:
- Stainless steel pointed contact probe with and a durable silver/silver chloride reference electrode stored neatly on each side of the meter.
- Easy to read large analogue needle display with 0-1.5 Volt DC full scale.
- Lightweight (under 3Kg), portable, rugged and compact.
- The Silver/Silver Chloride reference electrode is attached to 25 metres of cable which conveniently winds up on a reel at the back of the unit.
- Cathometer is supplied calibrated and should not require adjustment or maintenance during its service life.
- The Cathometer does not require dry cell batteries and is therefore more suitable for use in hazardous areas (refer to local requirements for suitability of use).

Applications:
Used to determine the effectiveness of anode systems on marine structures such as underwater hulls, ballast tanks, docks, jetties and offshore platforms in seawater.

READING INTERPRETATION OF STEEL POTENTIALS
(Salt Water)
- – 0.65V: Active Corrosion
0.65 – 0.78V: Partial Cathodic Protection
0.78 – 1.00 V: Complete Cathodic Protection
1.00 – 1.50V: Over Protection
When a cathodic protection is fitted readings will rise as the reference cell approaches an anode, with maximum readings obtained when the reference cell is adjacent to an anode.
